This partnership, approved by TRC’s Governing Deacons, has been set up by Pastor Angel Lopez of TRC and Pastor Nate Schipper at Fellowship Reformed to build a grassroots network for meeting needs for groceries and supplies during the shelter-in-place period. As pastors at both churches (North and South sides of Holland) are alerted to needs, followers of the Facebook page can volunteer to deliver an item that they can supply from their own pantry - a very practical sharing network!
Who does it help?
We know that there are members of our community who do not have access to unemployment benefits, are not able to drive or walk to a local food pantry like the Community Action House on 14th, or who are afraid for their own health or safety. This project will work by referral with the aim of getting necessities to those who face barriers to doing so themselves.
How does it work?
First, you go through your pantry and supplies and identify a surplus of blessings you can pass along. Our intention is NOT for you to order/buy up a bunch more stock from stores or companies like Amazon, which would further contribute to a wave of scarcity of products. In an attempt to comply with current travel and meeting restrictions, items to share would be taken directly to recipient’s address and dropped off, there will not be a drop-off or storage point at either church location, to minimize handling and person-to-person contact.
To join this network, you’ll need a Facebook account, a phone or computer, and a map/GPS. Delivery addresses will ONLY be sent to the first person to volunteer (“claim” a request) on the FB “wall”. Deliveries will be made to front doors or steps, without conversation or contact. Names will not be publicized. Look for our page and click “like” follow on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2990588204333485/
Finally, if you know of a person or family who is already struggling for the essentials, please let Nate or Angel know.
