REV. ANGEL LOPEZ & REV. JANELLE LOPEZ-KOOLHAAS
PASTOR OF NEIGHBORHOOD MINISTRIES
Pastors Angel and Janelle joined the congregation and ministry of TRC in 2017. They began with an invitation to foster ways for TRC to further engage with our local community, especially our Spanish-speaking neighbors, and help us grow our understanding of hospitality in our multicultural surroundings. Both of these pastors are bilingual, and each brings with them their own experience of moving to another culture, learning a new language, and finding belonging in a new place. They both also love to look for ways to build relationships and create space for people to connect, share their stories, and “do life” together. They lead a Bilingual Bible Study and Prayer Group at Third on Wednesdays throughout the year, as well as being regularly involved in pastoral and practical support for immigrant families, and TRC’s affordable housing ministry.
Angel and Janelle are both ordained ministers in the Reformed Church in America. Angel’s undergrad degree is in Anthropology, and Janelle’s in Religious Studies. They each have an MDiv from Western Theological Seminary here in Holland. They have been married since 2003, and have lived as a family in Mexico, Canada, and the United States. They have two delightful daughters and live just a short walk from church.
