| 3rd Helpings is gearing up for another year of food, faith, freezers and fun. If you have not yet participated in this excellent community building activity, or if you have been a faithful attendee, we invited you to join us in our upcoming food nights. Our goals are simple: to assemble nutritious meals for you to put in your freezer so that when you’re too busy to prepare a meal, you just have to thaw and cook one of them AND to use this activity as a way to get to better know and love fellow Third Reformed Church members. |
Frequently Asked Questions about “Dinner Prep Nights”
What kind of meals will I be making?
On each dinner prep night we will be making six different meals (we try to find a variety of meals that include a chicken entrée, vegetarian, ground beef etc). Based on your eating preferences and diet requirements, you can decide which meals and how many of them you’d like.
What kinds of meals do you make?
Team leaders choose a variety of meals (chicken, beef, pork, vegetarian). We choose each recipe because it is healthy and because it freezes well.
How many servings per meal?
There are two options: a 2-3 serving size and a 4-6 serving size.
What do I need to bring?
That’s the beauty of these events - from prep stations for each dish to recipe instructions to baking dishes or bags so you can take your entrees home to the freezer – we provide everything! We even provide snacks for you to enjoy as you work. There will also be a babysitter if you bring small children along.
What’s the time commitment?
2 hours. We start at 7 and end at 9.
Who comes to these nights?
This is the cool part. Our dinner prep nights have attracted the spectrum of people here at Third. Retired folks, singles, married couples and families have all participated and enjoyed our dinner prep nights.
Do I need to RSVP?
Yes. Since we have to buy the food ahead of time, we ask that you let us know on the Sunday before a dinner prep night if you are interested in participating. Call Michelle at 392-8263.
I live at FreedomVillage and don’t need the meals. How can I participate?
Because one of our goals is to build community within our church, we encourage everyone to participate in some way. You can choose to donate the money for six meals so that we can give them to someone who might need them. You could also choose to donate your time and just come to help out and enjoy the fun. You could also make meals for someone else. Pre-made dinners are always a great gift!
I’ve noticed that the Dinner Prep Nights will take place every other month. What’s happening on the “off” months?
Another great question! In an effort to appeal to even more people at Third, we decided to expanding our 3rd Helping activities to include more than just dinner prep nights. We think that making applesause, cookies, granola and so on are fun things to do with a group of people AND are food items that many people use and enjoy.
