Betty Voskuil serves the RCA as coordinator of diaconal ministries. The diaconal ministries program has helped transform the role of deacons. Deacons now play a crucial role in motivating and leading their congregations in ministries of mercy, service, and outreach. The office of deacon has returned to the biblical ideal of servanthood. A deacon's responsibilities include serving those in need, ministering to the suffering, expressing social concerns, gathering and distributing offerings, and exercising the stewardship of all resources.
